Frequently Asked Questions

What is counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy where you can explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgemental environment with a qualified professional. Although friends and family provide valuable support you may not wish to discuss certain issues with them for whatever reason.
Counselling is the place to feel supported to talk about difficult and painful life events, with the aim to acheiving a more fulfiling life.

How Long are the sessions?

All sessions are for 50 minutes. In the first session we will carry out an initial assessment to see how we can best work together. This also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have before proceeding further.

How will I know if counselling is right for me and what are the benefits?

By undertaking an initial assessment it will give you an opportunity to discuss your difficulties and see whether you feel a talking therapy would be helpful to you. You can talk freely in confidence, in an environment that is safe for you to explore your thoughts and feelings, in a way that you may not have done before. The therapeutic relationship is a supportive and unique relationship where you will feel valued and respected.
Counselling can help you find the inner resources that have been suppressed through difficult life events.

How Much does it cost ?

I charge £60 per session for individual therapy and £75 for couples Monday to Friday - payable by cash, bank transfer or cheque. Some concessions are available and can be discussed at the initial appointment.

How many sessions do I need ?

I offer long and short term counselling, the length of therapy can be discussed at your first session and will be reviewed a minimum of every six weeks.

What do I do if I need to cancel?

I require 48hrs notice for cancellation which there will be no charge. Appointments cancelled with less notice will incur the full fee of £60 I will always endeavor to rearrange your appointment.

Are my sessions confidential?

Information is not disclosed without your permission. What we discuss is confidential unless I feel there is risk of harm to yourself or another. Full disclosure rules as stipulated by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy will be discussed at your initial appointment.
